For someone who gave us so many words, I can’t find the right ones to give back to her. Apart from family & dear friends, she was the person who meant the most to me. She taught me more than I can ever say. She was part of my wedding ceremony & part of my son’s baptism. I recited “Wild Geese” to Arthur hundreds of times while I was pregnant with him. And read aloud to him several of her collections during pregnancy and in the weeks since. I’ve turned to her in times of darkness and in times of brightness. She gave me new eyes, a more open heart, and I always left time with her with a renewed spirit. Mary Oliver, you have brought so much joy and so much compassion and so much meaning into my life. You are a treasure, and one of my greatest gifts. I will love you, and miss you, and be grateful for you, forever. Give my love to Percy. I’m waving to you in your sky-house. #maryoliver #maryoliverpoetry#poetlaureateofmyheart
