Home Search – Chattanooga, Tennessee

We’ve been looking for a home for over a year, and this past weekend we arrived at what felt like the end of Tennessee. For now. We’ve combed over the whole state, excepting Memphis & Johnson City, looking for a little place to call our own. Chattanooga was the last place on our list so we headed there to see if it was somewhere we’d want to establish a home base. There’s something of a food scene there, there’s some good hiking and good coffee, it’s a pretty walkable town. We enjoyed our time there, but quickly realized that even though Nashville isn’t fully a fit for us right now, it’s still more of one than Chattanooga. We returned home disappointed, to put it lightly.

This week we’re in the process of moving out of our apartment. I am feeling Big Emotions. Excitement, anxiety, sadness, nostalgia, frustration. Our plan for now is to finish outfitting our camper, and spend much of the rest of the year on the road, introducing our son to his inheritance, the Earth, by way of the national parks. We don’t want to buy property until the market goes through a correction, so we feel in limbo for now.

Last year was such a tremendous, terrific whirlwind. I became a fiancé, wife, mother, and took on a new name in the course of a few months. And while I feel lots of sadness to be packing up the only home we have known as a family, I am also looking forward to some days on the road. For some quiet to hear my own thoughts. For some time in nature with my life’s loves.

Let me know what books you’ve come across recently that you think we’d enjoy. I’m looking forward to more time for that this year as well. Cheers to the future, whatever it may hold.
